Pure Spanish Saffron, Rice, and Olive Oil Cans
Pure Spanish Saffron in Threads - Besides the paella pan and the rice, there is only one other required ingredient
for authentic paella: saffron. We sell saffron in threads rather than in powder form because it is difficult, if not impossible,
to assess the quality of saffron powder. (Powder may have been blended with inferior quality saffron or adulterated with
non-saffron products.) Saffron in threads stays potent for several years when stored in a cool, dark, dry place (away from the stove!).
Bomba rice for paella - This is THE rice for making authentic Spanish paella. There are a
few other varieties of Spanish rice that work well in paella, but Bomba is the top of the line. It's a shorter grain rice,
and though it resembles Italian arborio in shape, it behaves much differently. It can absorb
3 times its volume in liquid yet still retain its toothy texture. So when using Bomba, remember that you'll need
3 cups of broth for every 1 cup of rice. Bomba does cost more than other rice, but if you want to make
paella the Spanish way, this is the way to go. 1/2 kilo bag bomba (1.1 lb) - Price: $7.50 1 kilo bag bomba (2.2 lbs) - Price: $14.95 5 kilo bag valenciano (11 lbs) - Price: $29.95 No-Drip Olive Oil Cans - Our olive oil cans are all stainless steel. They're beautiful to look at on the table and a pleasure to use in the kitchen. The long no-drip spout ensures a neat pour. We carry four sizes. We find that the 1/2 liter is the most practical for the typical home cook. Spanish Olive Oil - La Flor de La Loma olive oil is produced in the province of Jaen in Andalucia and is pressed from Picual olives. The oil is intensely fruity and round flavored -- nuanced enough to drizzle on bread or to whisk into vinaigrettes. Yet it's also robust enough to stand up to heat, so we use it in our paellas (as well as everything else).
